FAQ

ZNC questions

Have another question? Write to us and we'll get back to you.

What is an IRC bouncer?

It's a program that stays connected to IRC for you. You connect to it from irssi, WeeChat, mIRC or whatever client you use as if it were the IRC server, and it stays on the real network: you keep your nick and your messages even when your computer is off, your laptop goes to sleep or your internet drops.

How many networks can I use?

Up to 3 IRC networks on the same account at no extra cost, for example Libera.Chat, OFTC and your community's network. You list them when you order and, if you want to change one later, just let us know.

Do you charge a setup or maintenance fee?

No. There's no initial setup fee and no maintenance charges: you only pay for the period you choose.

What details do you ask for when I order?

Your username and password for your ZNC (the username can't be changed later), your nick, an alternate nick in case yours is taken, the ident and realname you want, and up to 3 IRC networks. At the end you accept the terms of service.

Can ZNC identify my nick on its own?

Yes. From your IRC client you turn on ZNC's sasl or nickserv module with your nick's password, and ZNC identifies you every time it connects. Your nick's password never goes through us.

How do I connect to my ZNC?

In mIRC, HexChat or your phone app, enter the server and port we sent you instead of the IRC server, and use username/network:password as the server password, with the network name we emailed you (for example ana/libera:yourpassword). Open one connection per network.

Is the connection guaranteed?

No. Each IRC network decides whether it accepts connections from bouncers and shared IPs, and may limit or block them at any time. We keep your ZNC running, but we can't guarantee a network will accept or keep the connection.

Which IRC client do I need?

Any: mIRC, HexChat, Irssi, WeeChat, Revolution IRC and others connect to ZNC like a regular server.

Can I use it with SSL?

It depends on the IRC server. If the network accepts SSL, ZNC connects encrypted; if not, the connection is unencrypted.

What uptime do you offer?

Our servers offer 99.9% monthly uptime. This service also depends on the IRC networks you connect to: a failure or disconnection on their end affects it until it is resolved, which is outside our control.

Are there discounts?

Yes: 3% when paying 3 months, 5% for 6 months and 10% for a full year.

Conditions

Conditions of this service

You accept them in your order. They are part of our terms of service.

  • Every order is subject to review before it is activated. If it doesn't meet these terms we may reject it, and if an active service stops meeting them we may suspend or cancel it. We'll let you know by email. If we reject an order before activating it, we refund what you paid.
  • Each account is for one person and includes up to 3 IRC networks. It uses a shared IPv4 address and doesn't include its own vhost.
  • Your ZNC username can't be changed after it's created. You're responsible for whatever is done with your username and password.
  • You may not use the ZNC to connect bots, clones or proxies, or for flooding, spam, ban evasion or attacks.
  • ZNC stores on the server the messages you receive while you're away, to deliver them when you come back.
  • Bots and ZNC run from IPv4 addresses shared with other customers and have no setup or maintenance fees.
  • We are not responsible if an IRC network or Telegram rejects, limits or blocks the connection (for example because of its rules on bots, bouncers or shared IPs).
  • SSL depends on the IRC server supporting it, and the connection to each network is not guaranteed.
  • Misuse (spam, flooding, attacks, ban evasion or breaking a network's rules) may lead to cancellation of the service.

Do you run an online radio?
